Prof. Halleli Pinson is a political sociologist of education. She joined the School of Education at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in 2007 after completing her PhD at Cambridge University. She has three main research foci: citizenship education in conflict ridden societies. In particular she is interested in how populism has reshaped civic discourses in the Israeli education system as well as higher education. Another research focus is concerned with global migration and education and the right to education of stateless and refugee children. Her third strand of research focuses on gender inequalities in education and more especially on gender and class patterns of participation in STEM and in gifted education programmes. She brings with her an experience of researching inequalities in education both at the policy and curricular levels as well as from the perspectives of teachers, students and parents. Prof. Pinson was also part of the founders of the Israeli Comparative Education Research Society and acted as its president between 2019-2021.
